The symposium on «Machine Translation and Post-editing» was organised by the BDÜ Weiterbildungs- und Fachverlags GmbH and the BDÜ LV Sachsen-Anhalt e. V. in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Languages of Anhalt University.

The idea behind the symposium was to facilitate dialogue and exchange concerning the key aspects of machine translation, the possibilities and limitations of this very promising technology, customer expectations, and post-editing in practice.

In addition to my contribution on experience as a post-editor, with tips and tricks from professional practice, the participants were treated to talks from renowned industry experts like Professor Uta Seewald-Heeg from the Faculty of Computer Science and Languages at Anhalt University, Harald Elsen from Lucy Software and Services GmbH, and Michael Schneider from beo Gesellschaft für Sprachen und Technologie mbH.

The symposium gave me my first opportunity to visit Saxony Anhalt and the city of Köthen with its highly contrasting yet fascinating historical centre. One highlight is the Erlebniswelt Deutsche Sprache at the Palace Museum, an exhibition dedicated to the German language.
