Speaking at the MT Meetup in Zurich

On February 3 I attended the MT Meetup in Zurich, an event organized by the wonderful people of TextShuttle. The sixth edition of the event focussed on the integration of machine translation and CAT tools.

In my speech “MT + CAT tools… lived happily ever after. Or maybe not?” I explained my vision of a slightly different approach to MT, and to technology in general.

These are the key points of my dream working environment:

– Integration of TMs, MT, and terminology

– Translation from scratch with interactive suggestions coming from the three different resources

– Predictive typing, vocal commands and voice recognition for speeding up both the typing and the time-consuming operations, such as concordance search or lookups

The idea is to make the most out of various technologies – not only MT – in order to provide top quality in less time, without comprising in terms of creativity and writing freedom.
